Co-combustion in power plants

New environmental legislation and fierce competition has shifted the attention of power/electricity producers to alternative fuels. Co-combustion of alternative fuels can be used to replace expensive fossil fuels, such as coal and reduce CO2 emission, contributing to a better environment.

Powder concept

The unique Subcoal® powder concept allows the Subcoal® pellets to be grinded into a fine consistent powder of <2 mm. This fine powder is characterized by a short and consistent burn-out time and opens up the opportunity to co-combust cellulose/plastic fractions in powder coal-fired power plants that require the alternative fuels to be completely burned in a few seconds.

High quality fuel

Power plants set high requirements towards the specification of the alternative fuels, for instance with respect to the chlorine or metal content. The unique Subcoal® process results in a high-quality fuel, which specifications are ideally suited for co-combustion in power plants. In general Subcoal® can replace between 5-10% of the total coal used.
